A View on Transparency from the Analysts

Transparency
David Cameron's letter to government departments has set in
train a process of transparency that once started is unlikely to
ever be reversed. In the course of the last month,
transparency has become one of the hottest topics in
politics. Understanding what is spent, when and by who is
under great scrutiny as the government grapples with the £155bn
budget deficit.
However, transparency is entirely reliant on consistent, high
quality data. Without this foundation, the analysis will be
inconsistent and the efforts to improve procurement and reduce the
gaping hole in government finances will be thwarted.
Those efforts must also be coordinated within government
bodies. Eric Pickles states that the onus is on Financial
Controllers to ensure they are getting better value for
money. Equally, SOCITM, understandably, highlights the
concerns of IT managers. Little mention is made of
procurement teams.
By engaging with thought leaders and professionals across
