Policy Compliance

Actively monitoring policy

The Government’s Transparency Policy continues to evolve as the Public Sector Transparency Board defines open data standards and oversees the publication of detailed guidance. We actively monitor policy and are committed to adapting the spotlightonspend platform and supporting processes as necessary to ensure that you remain compliant with published guidelines.  In addition to maintaining compliance with these and other reference data standards, the spotlightonspend platform aims to deliver spend data in a form which is easy to understand and interpret.

Adaptation in action

As a result of active discussions with the Treasury, the Cabinet Office, the Department for Communities & Local Government, the Public Sector Transparency Board, the Local Data Panel and the technical/implementation teams at www.data.gov.uk, we invested time and effort in adapting the ‘download section’ of the spotlightonspend application to support download of the ‘raw data’ (albeit after we have run and validated our redaction routines and standardised the output) on terms consistent with those defined by the Public Sector Transparency Board. The ‘raw data’ file is also automatically published to www.data.gov.uk as called for in the current guidelines.

"I'm really excited about the opportunities for transparency and it's something this government is utterly committed to. spotlightonspend demonstrates that, when innovative businesses work with far-sighted public bodies, we can inform the public, reduce costs and improve democracy both locally and nationally."

Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government.
