What’s new in spotlightonspend 1.2

Our dedicated development team is working hard to add new features and functions to the spotlightonspend platform. Here’s an ‘at-a-glance summary of what’s in the latest release that was posted to the Cloud on 7th October 2010:

For the General Public

  • Animated, interactive charts and graphs that help make the information more engaging as well as informative.
  • 'Drill through' on charts and graphs to make it quick, easy and intuitive to get to the detail.
  • Updated supplier categories to make it easier to interpret and understand the nature of the spend with those suppliers.
  • Inclusion of an extra level to the supplier categorisation to make it simpler to navigate a public body’s spend with its suppliers.
  • Extension of spotlightonspend to include easy and intuitive access to summary information about the contracts a public body currently has in place.
  • Additional summary metrics (Average Transaction Value and Average Spend per Creditor) to enable more meaningful comparison.

For Public Bodies

  • Updated supplier categories to support more granular presentation of your spend with your core trade suppliers.
  • Inclusion of an extra level to the supplier categorisation to make it presentation of your spend with your core trade suppliers more meaningful.
  • Updated category remapping tool that allows you to easily reallocate suppliers to a different category where that category might better reflect what you purchase from them.
  •  A mechanism for you to publish a supporting narrative authored by you to provide the public with background information and context to aid interpretation and understanding.
  • Extension of the Observatory’s Contract Analytics functionality to make it easier to collate your contract register and make summary contract information accessible by the public.
  • Improved redaction algorithms to automatically redact payments made to individuals (for example foster carers and vulnerable adults in local government) or where national security, personal security or foreign relations might be compromised.
  • Redeveloped raw data download section so that your downloadable monthly files are policy compliant and machine readable.
  • Integration with http://www.data.gov.uk/ to automate the publishing of your raw data download file consistent with the policy as defined by the Public Sector Transparency Board
  • Updated licence terms for your raw data downloads to the new Open Government Licence delivered by The National Archives.

For 'Armchair Auditors'

  • Redeveloped raw data download section on spotlightonspend so that downloadable monthly files of payments made are policy compliant and machine readable.
  • Extension of spotlightonspend to provide downloadable raw data file of summary information about the contracts a public body currently has in place.
  • Integration with http://www.data.gov.uk/ to make access to a public body’s raw data easier to access and download.
  • Updated licence terms for a public bodies raw data so that you may use and re-use downloaded raw data free of charge in any format or medium, under the terms of the new Open Government Licence delivered by The National Archives.
